When people ask us what our favorite place on 30A is, we don't even have to think about it.
It's Grayton Beach State Park.
Now, don't get us wrong, there are a lot of beautiful places along 30A. But Grayton Beach State Park has a little bit of everything that makes this area special. It's the kind of place where you can spend an entire day exploring and still feel like you've only scratched the surface.
Here are five reasons why it's one of our favorite spots on the Emerald Coast.
1. A Coastal Dune Lake Sitting Next to the Gulf
This is one of those things that sounds normal until you realize how rare it actually is.
Western Lake sits right beside the Gulf of Mexico, creating one of the world's rare coastal dune lake ecosystems. These lakes exist in only a handful of places around the globe, and we're lucky enough to have one right here in Grayton Beach.
On some days, you can paddle across the lake and be looking at the Gulf just a few feet away. It's one of the most unique landscapes you'll find anywhere in Florida.
2. Miles of Trails Through Old Florida

Most people come for the beach, but the trails might be the park's best-kept secret.
The hiking and biking trails wind through pine forests, scrub oak, palmettos, and wetlands that look much like they did decades ago. You can spend hours exploring without ever hearing traffic or seeing a condo building.
It's a side of 30A that many visitors never experience.
3. Some of the Most Beautiful Dunes on the Gulf Coast
The dunes here are massive.
These natural sand formations help protect the coastline and create a stunning backdrop for the beach. As you walk over the boardwalks and look across the rolling dunes, it's easy to see why so much effort goes into protecting them.
They're not just beautiful. They're part of what makes this coastline so unique.
4. That Water. That Beach.
Let's be honest.
The beach alone would make Grayton Beach State Park worth visiting.
The sugar-white sand and clear emerald water look like something out of the Caribbean. On calm days, the water can be so clear that you can see fish swimming around your feet.
And because much of the shoreline is protected park land, the views feel a little more natural and a little less crowded than many other beaches.
5. It Still Feels Like the Old 30A
This may be our favorite reason of all.
Grayton Beach State Park reminds us what this area felt like before everyone discovered it.
There's a quietness here. A laid-back atmosphere. A feeling that nature is still in charge.
You can kayak the lake in the morning, hike a trail in the afternoon, watch the sunset over the Gulf, and never feel rushed. That's becoming harder to find these days.
